Barlean’s Organic Fish Oil Review

April 26th, 2010 CarrieRusso

Not too long ago I posted about an offer for a free sample of Barlean’s fish oil that I went ahead and sent out for (I paid a small fee for shipping but well worth it) and now it is time to update about my experience.

The package arrived 2nd day air, way sooner than I thought it would! Not great on the carbon footprint but I’m sure I could call the company and request a different shipping method but the 2nd day air would sure be handy if I was in a hurry. This might seem funny but I love the bottle. It’s got a flip-top lid with a little rubber gasket at the opening so when you tip the bottle you have to squeeze it to get it out. It just give a good, controlled pour since the recommended amount is only a teaspoon there just isn’t much surface space to be pouring onto and good fish oil is worth its weight in gold so spilling it is not an option.

I was impressed with the taste…nothing fishy at. all. I did get a little bit of indigestion shortly after taking the oil the first time but I have taken the Barlean’s fish oil a few more times without incident so I think it was unrelated. No burping afterwards either but I generally don’t have a problem with that. I like this product but because I don’t  like to pay shipping I would want to find a local retailer of Barlean’s Fish oil.

Bio-Kleen Love

April 19th, 2010 CarrieRusso

I have tried just about every Bio-Kleen product out there and have talked about these products before. And while the dishwasher detergent left yucky build-up in the bottom of our dishwasher, every other product has left us pleasantly satisfied including Bio-Kleens Drain Cleaner. I was a bit hesitant to buy it since their was no caustic smell that made me think it would eat away at anything clogging a drain but we followed the instructions and our slow to drain sink was draining like normal once again. My favorite Bio-Kleen product is Bac-Out. It takes care of odors like no other natural and non-toxic cleaner out there.

Our most recent testimony was when our son was refusing to wear a nighttime diaper and he ended up peeing in our bed. Although we are left with a stain to remember the precious moments of toddler parenthood, the odor is gone. We have also used it as a carpet cleaner in a rental machine. Worked awesome and lifted the stains out too without them reappearing. Just remember that for strong odors or stains Bac-Out should be used full-strength for best results.

Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil

April 15th, 2010 CarrieRusso

I have read from many online sources that Nordic Naturals is one of the best fish oils to use and many mamas I know swear by it. It is made from 100% cod liver oil and not only is it tested for any contaniments but it is also derived from some of the purest waters. My lovely naturopath gave me a bunch of samples of orange and lemon flavored cod liver oil and I used them all. The fact that my naturopath recommends this stuff means a lot to me too because she really does her homework on supplements and we have certainly seen the effectiveness of many of the supplements recommended by her.

My kids would not take it even though it was flavored (there is a strawberry flavor too) because there is still a definite fish taste behind the flavor. The oil is thick just like any other oil and I find it a bit hard to swallow but I know the health benefits outweigh the moment of discomfort. I didn’t experience any bad aftertastes or burps but I usually kept a glass of water on the counter for drinking right after taking my spoonful of the Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil.

Would I buy it or recommend it to a friend? Most certainly. It does have a clear, pure taste and I prefer spoonfuls over large horsepills. I also feel much better when I take fish oil from any source. My tendonitis inflammation is noticeably decreased which makes doing everyday things a whole lot easier.

Natural Toy Review

December 2nd, 2007 Sammy

If there is an opportunity to buy natural toys made with safe, water-based dyes and non-toxic wood material why wouldn’t you? Maybe it’s because the mainstream toys appear to be proven “liked” by infants and children. I buy natural and wooden toys and my children love them. Read what my children and I think about natural and wooden toys to find out if these safe toys are really any good. Read more…
