ECO RVing: Sustainable Living and Traveling
Will ECO RVing be the next step in travel?
We hadn’t even heard of ECO RVing until just this past weekend. Carrie was on the Mothering.com Forum and came across a thread for families who live on the road in their RV’s and 5th wheels. It’s kind of funny that Carrie stumbled upon ECO RVing because about a month ago I mentioned something about us buying an RV and just traveling around. Of course the cost of gas came up in the conversation and we didn’t really revisit the topic of ECO RVing until we came across a blog about a couple who converted their diesel RV into a veggie oil powered machine.
Carrie and I are not super content with our life in Tehachapi, California and we’ve been looking for a better life elsewhere in the US. We’ve toyed with the idea of moving to Colorado before the real estate market crashed. Since then we also discussed and researched the North Carolina / Tennessee area.
Now that we’ve found ECO RVing.. we’re intrigued. We don’t have to live anywhere since I can workamp. Not only are we fascinated with the idea of living on the road where ever we want.. it also allows us to live more simply without all the clutter typical life brings with it. And lastly it allows us to be more sustainable in how we live.
No initial commitment yet as we have to have our baby first (due October 2, 2008). But I would assume that we’ll be looking at developing a budget, a time line and a plan of action to see how feasible it would be for us.
So far we’ve found a bunch of cool resources for families with children who educate, travel and live sustainably on the road while ECO RVing.
If living on the road sounds like something you are interested in check out Families on the Road for lots of information about what it’s like to live on the road, how other families are doing and what their budgets are like. If you want to convert to veggie oil, visit Golden Fuel Systems…and don’t mind the intrusive music when you click on the link.
