Diaper Wipe Solution
Even if you don’t use cloth diapers you may want to consider using cloth wipes on your baby’s sensitive bottom. Commercial wipes are full of fragrances and ingredients that you just shouldn’t put on your baby’s delicate skin.
If you are already cloth diapering or planning to cloth diaper, you should consider using cloth wipes also since you will already be washing diapers. Once you start using cloth wipes you will see just how easy and economical it can be. Make homemade diaper wipes…
How to Get Started
First you will need the cloth wipes. You can buy them from cloth diaper stores or from work at home moms. You can also make them yourself with minimal sewing skills. If you are going to make them yourself you can make the cloth wipes from used or extra flannel receiving blankets. 1 ply wipes work just fine but you can double them up. Cut them to fit into a wipes container when folded in half or to any other size you like. Surge the edges if you have that option with your sewing machine or just do a zig-zag stitch on the edges to keep them from fraying. It’s that easy, now you have cloth wipes with cute designs!
Homemade Diaper Wipe Solution
There are a couple of ways to keep your cloth wipes. You can heat 1 gallon of distilled water and add 2 Tb of AloeVera Gel, 4 drops of Tea Tree oil, and 1 Tb of either Shea Oil or any other quality oil you like. Let cool. Saturate 1-2 days worth of wipes in the container, drain excess water and store at your changing station. Refrigerate the unused diaper wipe solution.
OR
This is what I prefer. I think it’s easier and it keeps the wipes fresher. Get a 12 oz spray bottle and fill with distilled water. Add 1/2 tsp. of Aloe Vera Gel and 1 drop of Tea Tree oil. I don’t add any other oils because my baby has extra sensitive skin but using about 1/2 tsp. of baby wash is good also. The Tea Tree oil as an anti-microbial but sometimes I even use plain water. Keep the spray bottle at your changing station along with cloth wipes and when changing the baby just spray diaper wipe solution on the cloth wipe and clean your baby’s bottom.
For the diaper bag, use one of the travel wipes container or a zipper bag and wet the needed wipes with the solution. It’s really simple.
