A really fun activity to do with toddlers and a great keepsake for parents and grandparents.

Recipe:

2 cups bleached all-purpose flour

1 cup salt

1 cup water

Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Mix salt and flour together, add water slowly while mixing. Continue mixing until dough begins to be smooth. Roll out to 1/2 inch thick on lightly floured surface. Use a bowl or saucer to make round shape and cut out shape. Lift dough carefully and place on a heavily floured pan. Press childs hand or feet into dough. If you are doing baby feet it is easier to do one at a time. Make one or two holes in the top to thread ribbon through. Bake in oven at 200 degrees for one hour, increase heat to 225 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour, increase heat to 275 until prints are baked through. Use a clear varnish to give a nice finished look.

Because the prints come out tan from baking in the oven, I used black ribbon and thought they looked very nice. I also printed the date on the edge with a toothpick before baking or you could just write it on the back after baking.

If you want colored dough, add food coloring to the water before mixing into the dough. Use alot of food coloring to get good color.

Now What?
