Non-Toxic Cleaning Products

October 22nd, 2007 Sammy

One thing I love the most is a non-toxic cleaning product. I don’t think I really ever considered the thought of green cleaning supplies until I had my first baby and sat her in a bouncy chair in the bathroom doorway breathing the ‘clean’ air. Even if you aren’t a mom yet, don’t wait until you have a baby to make the switch to non-toxic cleaning products.

Wanna know what we like?
Some of my favorite cleaning products are made by method. I first discovered them at Target years ago and have recently used the online method store to buy them when I’m not near a Target store. I noticed that one of our local grocery stores is now carrying a few of their products so check to see if yours is. If they aren’t, request that they do carry them.

Method products I’ve used:
Wood cleaner. It smells great and works wonders. Especially when you use the microfiber cloth method makes to go along with their wood for good cleaner. Did I mention it’s non-toxic?
Glass cleaner. If you don’t like streaky glass than use method’s window wash because it leaves glass looking crystal clear without hard work. They make a microfiber cloth for windows also. It has a different texture than other microfibers so it’s specially made to not streak.
Stainless Steel Cleaner. The only stainless steel I have in my kitchen is my garbage can and my hood over the oven. I could only imagine how much more I would use the Stainless Steel wipes method makes if I had more stainless in my kitchen. If you have a stainless steel kitchen you don’t want to be living without method’s non-toxic Stainless Steel Wipes or Spray.
Tub & Tile. Not only does this non-toxic cleaner get the soap scum gone but it smells good! What more could you ask?
Dish Soap. They make dishwasher detergent cubes also but I’ve only tried the dish soap. It’s super concentrated and it only takes a bit to get your dishes totally clean. If the dishwasher detergent cubes are anything like the manual dish soap, I’ll have to get some on my next visit to Target.
Hand Soap. I love the nifty refill bags they make for hand soap. It really makes an impact on green living to buy less packaging and still get the products you need. You’ll be completely satisfied with you purchase.

If you haven’t noticed, I’m definitely a method advocate. If you haven’t tried them out yet, do it now! If you are buying expensive green cleaning products you can save money with method and get the same results if not better and your conscience will be clean because method is green. If your house it toxic, throw those cleaners out and renew your home with method…you’ll be happy you did.

Now What?

Well, have you looked at their ingredients list? I don’t understand how Method is green and non-toxic? Propylene glycol isn’t on my list of safe and non-toxic ingredient, I don’t even want to go into other ingrediens. I use baking soda, vinegar and just baby mild Dr. Bronner soap for all my cleaning and it does pretty good job.

Thanks for your comment Iena. I understand that Method products aren’t “pure” per se. But they are biodegradable and non-toxic which surpasses the standards of many other popular cleaning brands. For some people, Method cleaners just aren’t good enough but not everyone is going to use vinegar and baking soda for cleaning.

Method products are available in Target stores which are readily available in almost every area of the U.S. and they can also be found in some local supermarkets. This is an awesome alternative for the people who don’t venture into health food stores or buy products online.
